It Makes Nothing Happen: Reasons for Studying the History of LawUniversity of Florida, Gainesville, edale{at}history.ufl.edu In place of the idea that legal history should search for a new grand narrative of law, written to persuade lawyers and judges and change the world, this article suggests that legal historians focus their attention on writing and teaching more particularized histories targeting a popular audience.
